Artist Peters Visits Carrousel

Mary Lou Peters, a professional artist from Mackinaw City, was Artist in Residence Saturday, June 17, at Lilacs & Lace in the Carrousel Shops on Market Street.

"Everywhere you look is a painting, she said. Mackinac Island is Mackinac Island. It's glorious."

Ms. Peters came to the Island as a child, but is able to see things differently now through the eyes of a painter, working in the mediums of watercolor, acrylic, and acrylic on glass.

Before becoming a professional artist, Ms. Peters taught elementary school, although she won her first art contest at the age of 10.

"And of course, at the end of the day, there is always the fudge," she said of her love of the Island.
