Teacher Laura Eiseler Voted School Employee of the Year
She was named by the Mackinac Island Teacher's Association after being nominated by a vote of fellow teachers at the school. "The kids are definitely the best part of the job," Ms. Eiseler said, and added that her co-workers and the handson nature of her job make coming to work enjoyable. She also likes the close interaction she has with students on Mackinac Island and team teaching with other elementary teachers. "I could not do the job I do without the assistance of my fellow elementary teachers," she said, adding that the staff sets high standards and expectations for students here. "Laura is dedicated to making sure that the kids receive a quality education," noted Superintendent Jack Dehring. Her work and commitment both in and out of the classroom make her deserving of the award, he said. Ms. Eiseler grew up in the Lansing area and attended Michigan State University and Northern Michigan University. She has lived here yeararound since she started teaching, but began coming to the Island in the summers 34 years ago when she worked for the Mackinac Island State Park Commission. |
