Great Turtle Trivia Contest Set For July 27

Island trivia aficionados have had a year to buff up on Island facts, events, and area history in preparation for the third annual Great Turtle Trivia Bowl challenge and fundraiser set for Thursday, July 27, at Mission Point Resort.

In a round-robin contest, eight three-person teams vie for the championship and a coveted Trivia Bowl mug. Teams buzz in to answer questions on a variety of subjects, ranging from landmarks, personalities, Island organizations, businesses, Straits area facts, and Mackinac history. Incorrectly answered questions are offered to the opposing team.

Last year's contest ended with the tie-breaking question, "Who won the snowmobile in the 2004 Christmas Bazaar raffle?" which nobody could answer. The Little Women thought they could, but couldn't, and the Trinity Trio won by default.

The Little Women team included Candi Dunnigan, Lin Sheppard, and Lorne Porter, while sitting on the winning Trinity Trio Team were Trish Martin, Dan Seeley, and Sue Myron. The answer to the question was Brad Chambers.

Comedian Stu Stuart will emcee the event again this year and Phil Porter, director of Mackinac State Historic Parks, will be judge and rule on all answers.

Sponsored by Mackinac Associates, the Great Turtle Trivia Bowl is open to the public with donations accepted at the door. Mackinac Associates raises funds for Mackinac State Historic Parks' programs.

The contest begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Mission Point Theater.

Trivia teams are still being formed and can register to participate. A $100 entry fee is required and area businesses and organizations are encouraged to sponsor teams.

To register a team, call the Mackinac State Historic Parks office at (231) 436-4100.
