     Lawrence Richard Weston, 74, of Stalwart worked as a heavy equipment operator at a Cedarville limestone quarry for more than 30 years, as well as a long-time logger and truck driver. As a young man, he drove a taxi on Mackinac Island.

     Edward M. Stacks, 93, of Big Rapids, formerly of Sault Ste. Marie, served his country for 45 years in the U.S. Navy and as a U.S. Customs Inspector on the Sault Ste. Marie border. Mr. Stacks died Thursday, July 6, 2006, at his home.

     John Warner Fitzgerald, former Chief Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court, died Friday, July 7, 2006, at Mackinac Straits Hospital in St. Ignace following an extended illness. The respected jurist was born in Grand Ledge in 1924 and was 81 when he died.
