Three Islanders Recognized by City for Community Contributions Nona Tacey, George Wellington, Sr., and Clark Bloswick have been recognized by the City of Mackinac Island for their contributions to the community, each receiving a standing ovation, a resolution, and a plaque during the Mackinac Island City Council meeting Wednesday, July 19. More than 50 people were in attendance. Nona Tacey served as an Emergency Medical Technician Specialist for 17 years, while Mr. Wellington and Mr. Bloswick both were members of the Island's volunteer fire department crew, Mr. Wellington for 40 years and Mr. Bloswick for 17 years. "It's people like these, who retired tonight, who make Mackinac the special place that it is," said Mayor Margaret Doud. "Nona Tacey has always exemplified a professional candor in her position, yet always presented a happy demeanor, putting the patient's concerns at the forefront of some of the most difficult situations," read Mayor Doud. "George William Wellington, for the past 40 years, has been a constant and dedicated member of the Mackinac Island Volunteer Fire Department," said Mayor Doud. "Clark Bloswick has fought many of the worst fires on Mackinac Island and displayed bravery and heroism and undauntedly evacuated many sleeping residents during the LaSalle fire," Mayor Doud said, reading from Mr. Bloswick's resolution. Each resolution was signed by the mayor, City Clerk Karen Lennard, and aldermen Armand Horn, Frank Bloswick, Jr., Michael Hart, Jason St. Onge, Armin Porter, and Daniel Wightman. |
