Golf 'Battle' Day August 5

Wawashkamo Golf Club will host its Battle Day Tournament Saturday, August 5. The event is open to club members and their guests and to Island residents and employees. The format for the event is a two-person scramble.

The annual event is always held on the Saturday closest to the War of 1812 battle on Mackinac Island, which took place August 4, 1814, where the course now sits.

The 18-hole tournament will have a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. Lunch and awards will follow.

Fred "Fritz" George, the golf pro at Wawashkamo, said the tournament is close to being full. Twenty-four two-person teams will be accepted for the tournament this year.
