Civilian Soldiers To Occupy Fort Michilimackinac

Historical reenactors from throughout Michigan will join the 18th century British troop of interpreters already stationed at Colonial Michilimackinac for the annual Campeau's Company Encampment in Mackinaw City Saturday, July 29, through Sunday, July 30.

During their stay, both soldiers and civilians will portray many aspects of French Colonial life with demonstrations of military techniques, period clothing shows, craft demonstrations, and musket firings. Nearly half of Campeau's Company reenactors portray civilians who demonstrate nonmilitary aspects of colonial life, such as cooking and woodworking.

A reconstructed French furtrading village and military outpost, Colonial Michilimackinac is a living history museum and includes an on-site archaeology dig, and interactive military and civilian life demonstrations from the British 1770s occupation and also from the American Revolution era.
