Annual Softball Game Pits Policemen Against Firemen

Island firefighters and police will compete in the 5th Annual Guns and Hoses benefit softball game Sunday, August 13, at Great Turtle Park. Events are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

Last year in a surprise comeback, the fire department, behind by six runs at one point, pulled off a victory with a final score of 14 to 13. A golf contest, food, and a

raffle are also planned. The winner of a 9-iron chipping contest will receive a round of golf for four people at Grand Hotel's Jewel Nine golf course.

All proceeds benefit the Mark Gallagher Scholarship Fund, an endowed fund of the Mackinac Island Community Foundation that supports Mackinac Island Public School graduates studying criminal justice.
