Man Suffers Fall, Head Injuries Near Devil's Kitchen August 22 A 19-year-old man fell approximately 50 feet from a limestone cliff near Devil's Kitchen Tuesday, August 22, and was airlifted by the U.S. Coast Guard to Petoskey with head injuries. A jogger discovered the man lying on M-185 at approximately 11 p.m. Police responded to the scene and attended to the man until the ambulance crew arrived and transported him to the Mackinac Island Medical Center, where he was stabilized. A helicopter from the U.S. Coast Guard air station in Traverse City transported the injured man to Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. Alcohol has not been ruled out as a factor in the accident, said Police Chief Bill Lenaghan. He said the case remains under investigation and officers would like to talk with anyone who may have witnessed the fall. The name of the man, who is an employee of Mackinac Island Carriage Tours, has not been released. |
