Students Kick Off New Year with Back-to-School Barbecue Party

The opening bell at Mackinac Island Public School will ring at 8:20 a.m. Tuesday, September 5, and, following a morning of orientation, students will be released from class at 11:30 a.m. for the annual Back-to-School Barbecue on the school playground.

School cook Donna Killips and her volunteers will prepare a picnic-style lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs, salad, and watermelon. Parents and community members are welcome to attend.

Information on nutrition education, mentoring, and licensed day care will be available.

School secretary Barb Fisher said she is lining up a list of local musicians to perform during the event.
