ZBA Approves Doud's Plans for Reconstruction of Barn

     Andrew Doud received approval by the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) in a five-totwo vote for three variances that allow him to demolish an old barn on his Cadotte Avenue property and construct a new commercial barn in its place. School Hires New Teacher
     Seth Baker of Midland is Mackinac Island Public School's new social studies teacher. Craig Aho, who was selected by the school's Board of Education earlier in August, declined the offer.

     Suffering heart palpitations and exhaustion, marathon athlete Jim Dreyer has ended his quest to set a world distance swimming record in the Straits of Mackinac, leaving the water at 10:50 a.m. Wednesday, August 30, after swimming 40 miles in 49 hours.
