Wawashkamo Golf Club rekindled an old tradition at the historic nine-hole links, holding an 18-hole championship tournament Saturday, August 26, and Sunday, August 27, which was won by Randy Stuck and Lin Sheppard.

"This was the first time in, I'd say, 50-plus years that we've held a club championship," said Wawashkamo Golf Club General Manager Fritz George. "We have some very old trophies, but the most recent one I can find is an anniversary bowl that is dated 1958. We're not even sure what that one was for."

This year winners were presented with bronze trophies depicting old-fashioned male and female golfers.

The event attracted 16 men and eight women, and Mr. George said he is pleased to have brought back a long-lost tradition.

"I think we can get more people to participate next year," he said. "I know it's hard for people to take two days off during the busy summer, but if we plan a better date, it should be well-attended."

Plans for next year's championship format may include a match-play among paired teams. Players would be matched according to handicaps and would compete throughout the summer,
