Medical Center Golf Tourney Raises $27,000 The 5th annual Mackinac Island Medical Center Golf Tournament, held at Grand Hotel's Jewel Golf Course Thursday, August 24, raised an estimated $27,000 for operations at the Medical Center and the Moses Renal Dialysis Unit, technology used to help cleanse blood when kidneys are unable to. Among the tournament's 112 participating golfers were former Detroit Tigers John Hiller and Bill Freehan. This year's tournament honorary chairman was U.S. Congressman Joe Schwarz (R-Battle Creek). U.S. Congressman Bart Stupak (D-Menominee), State Representative Mickey Mortimer, and Michigan Department of Community Health Director James Havemen also participated in the golf tourney. About 30 volunteers helped with the event, said Shannon Doran of Mackinac Straits Hospital. Tournament Results 1st Place (low net) - $125 each: Patrick Doud, Michael Doud, Dick Sweeney, Jim Bentgen. 1st Place (low gross) - $125 each: David Jahn, John Hiller, Bart Stupak, Pat Gagliardi. 2nd Place (low net) - $100 each: Jim North, Ruth Visnaw, Cheryl Schlehuber, Andy Brown. 2nd Place (low gross) - $100 each: Charlie Brown, Prentiss Brown, Tom Evashevski, Barry Pierson. 3rd Place (low net) - $75 each: Ron Dufina, Doug Rearick, Mike Konicki, Chuck Shafer. 3rd Place (low gross) - $75 each: Jason St. Onge, Glenn St. Onge, Jack Dehring, Franc Doud. 10th Place Winners for Net (for a dozen golf balls): Chico Belonga, Ralph Colegrove, Steve Johnson, Jerry Sorenson. 20th Place Winners for Gross (for a dozen golf balls): Todd Callewaert, Rene Callewaert, Mary Callewaert, Les Parrish. |
