Mackinac College Reunion Holds Open House

Those attending the Mackinac College 40th anniversary of the College inaugural on Mackinac Island will host an open house to visit and reminisce with community friends Friday, October 20, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Community Hall.

Food and beverages will be provided by Patrick Sinclair's Irish Pub. Proceeds from a suggested $10 donation per person for the event will benefit the Mackinac College Legacy Fund. Established by Mackinac

College alumni, the legacy fund is an endowed fund with the Mackinac Island Community Foundation. The fund provides money each year to support environmental programs and educational projects for Mackinac Island Public School.

The college closed in 1970.

In May, an anonymous graduate of the college said he would match every dollar donated to the fund, up to $10,000. The challenge was initiated to increase the fund's capacity as a tribute to the 40th anniversary of the College inaugural.

Jennifer Bloswick, executive director of the Mackinac Island Community Foundation, said since May, donors have come forward with an additional $3,850 to bring the fund total to $14,581.

Donors who wish to contribute to the Mackinac College Legacy Fund can mail their donation to the Foundation at PO Box 1933, Mackinac Island, MI 49757, or through its Web site, www.micf.org.
