Sweeney Eulogy Mackinac mourns the loss of Mrs. Marguerite "Maggie" Sweeney, longtime resident of Hubbard's Annex, who died October 22. She and her late husband, Ted, loved the Island with all of their hearts, and were the happiest when they were enjoying their Trillium Cottage with the peace and tranquility that it had to offer, and especially the magnificent view of the Straits of Mackinac and the Mackinac Bridge. Maggie and Ted were our special friends, who opened their lovely home to us late in the fall, when we would join them for an evening reminiscing about the good old days on Mackinac, followed by a delicious dinner. Memories not soon to be forgotten. Following the death of Ted, Maggie was able to visit her Mackinac home along with her son, Ted Jr., daughter in-law, Amie, and beloved grandchildren, Theodore III and Margaret. Our last visit with Maggie was in August, when the family attended the medical center auction at Grand Hotel. When she introduced me to the grandchildren, her face was beaming with pride and joy. She adored them. Maggie was a great lady, who will be sadly missed by everyone, including her many Island friends. A memorial service was held Thursday, October 26, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Grosse Pointe Farms. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mackinac Island Medical Center. Maggie: May the road rise to meet you, may the wind be always at your back, May the rain fall soft upon your fields, and until we meet again, May God hold you in thepalm of his hand. Deepest sympathy from Island friends. |
