Island Ski Trails Ready for Winter

Ray Clark, a member of the Mackinac Island Ski Club and groomer of the Island's crosscountry ski trails, said this winter is the earliest he has been able to groom the trails, owing to a foot of snow that began falling December 1.

Mr. Clark began grooming the major trails Wednesday, December 6. He said he will need a "good freeze" and some more snow on top of that to set a good two-groove track for skiers to follow, but general grooming is paving the way.

"The trails are good now," he said.

Mackinac State Historic Parks has erected signs warning snowmobilers to stay off the designated ski trails.
