The festival has been going on since 1949, and was established to encourage people to come and enjoy our beautiful lilacs. More ... Under brilliant blue skies and warm temperatures, crowds of visitors came to our beautiful Island this past week to view the magnificent lilac trees, many of which were brought over by the early missionary fathers. Wherever one looks, they find the colors ranging from soft pink, white, lavender, and the deepest of purple, truly a wonderful sight. More ... This weekend the Island begins the summer season in earnest. Now that the Lilac Festival is already underway, activities are building daily. Friday, June 15, marks Mackinac's Feast of Epona with another "blessing of the animals" in the afternoon at the Mission Barn on Mission Hill. There will be some dogs and cats, as well as horses and ponies. More ... It is becoming more common - the reporting of sudden collapse, and in some cases unexpected sudden death, of individuals on long airline flights.
