Island Lakers Enjoy Perfect Record

Mackinac Island Lakers soccer team is enjoying a perfect season with a 10-0 record at the halfway point.

Coach Ken Straight and his Lakers started the season with a 6-1 win Friday, September 7, and 4-1 Saturday, September 8, over the Beaver Island Islanders in a Northern Lights League series.

Robert Chambers recorded four goals and two assists, Caleb Straight, two goals and one assist, Jesse Straight, two assists, and Tyler McLean, one assist, with Jesse Straight and Fuller Cowell named players of the game.

Chambers scored two goals, Tyler McLean one goal and one assist, and Shay Mosley one goal in the second game and Jane Finkel and Caleb Straight added one assist. Woody Beardsley, Shay Mosley, and Fuller Cowell were selected as players of the game.

Ojibwa Charter School of Brimley forfeited the second weekend series Friday, September 14, and Saturday, September 15.

The Lakers improved their record to 5-0 after defeating Alcona in a non-conference game 2-1 Monday, September 17, with Robert Chambers scoring both goals and Michi Mullings adding one assist. Michi Mullings, Caleb Straight, and Robert Chambers were named players of the game.

Mackinac Island swept Hannahville Soaring Eagles in a Northern Lights League series 8- 1 Friday, September 21, and 8-0 Saturday, September 22.

Robert Chambers continues his outstanding play with four goals and one assist in the opener. Caleb Straight added two goals and two assists, Tyler McLean one goal and one assist, Kate Dupre one goal, and Jesse Straight one assist. Karlena Mosley and Jesse Straight were named players of the game.

Tyler McLean and Robert Chambers scored two goals and one assist, Caleb Straight one goal and one assist, Fuller Cowell, Jesse Straight, and Karlena Mosley had one goal each, and Kate Dupre and Shelbie Mosley had one assist. Tyler McLean received player of the game honors.

Mackinac Island downed the Paradise Rockets in a Northern Lights League contest 6-2 Friday, September 28, and 5-0 Saturday, September 29, to improve the Lakers record to 9- 0.

Robert Chambers scored five goals and one assist in the win on Friday, Caleb Straight one goal and two assists, and Jesse Straight one assist.

Robert Chambers scored four goals and Caleb Straight one goal and two assists Saturday, and goalie Woody Beardsley recorded 25 saves in the two wins over the Rockets.

On the defensive side, Kyle Sweet, Tymon Horn, Fuller Cowell, and Jesse Straight had outstanding play in the twogame series.

The Lakers will travel to Grand Marais to battle the Polar Bears in a Northern Lights League weekend series Friday, October 5, and Saturday, October 6.

The Lakers downed Munising Baptist Bobcats 7-3 Monday, October 1, as Robert Chambers scored four goal, Tyler McLean two goals and one assist, Woody Beardsley one goal and one assist, and Caleb Straight, Fuller Cowell, and Kate Dupre one assist each.

Anthony Rickley and Wood Beardsley shared time in goal for Mackinac Island. The team will travel to Grand Marais to battle the Polar Bears in a weekend series Friday, October 5, and Saturday, October 6.

"This team has worked hard for this record and everyone has contributed to the success," said Coach Straight. "We have some games remaining on our schedule that includes the league tourney on October 20."
