Connie and JimWilliams of Mitchell,Indiana, have been visitingMackinac Islandsince 1994. As the paceslows on the Island andfewer visitors make thetrek north, that's whenthe Williams' prefer tobe here. They come eachyear about the secondweek of September,along with six or eightfriends from the 1964Mitchell High Schoolgraduating class. "It'sreally peaceful," saidMr. Williams of theIsland in early fall. Thegroup stays at theIroquois Hotel for threeto four days and theWilliams' always takethe same room. Duringthe day, the classmateshead off in differentdirections, walking andriding bicycles, and eachnight they gather for agroup dinner. Duringtheir first visit 13 yearsago, Mrs. Williams wasconcerned her husbandwould not like theIsland trip, but he toldher it was the most peaceful vacation he'd ever had, and they have returned almostevery year since then. "We just love it here," she said.
