Island Photograph Book Earns Award A book celebrating the career of noted Mackinac Island photographer William Gardiner received a Quest for Excellence Award from the Michigan Museum Association at its 2006 conference. Entitled "Picturesque Mackinac: The Photographs of William H. Gardiner, 1896- 1915," the book was recognized in the Graphic Design category, established to "encourage graphic design excellence in publications produced for public dissemination." Thomas Kachadurian of Traverse City designed the book, which was compiled by Steven Brisson, Mackinac State Historic Parks chief curator. The hardcover work was the 98th book published by the parks. The book includes 300 images from Mr. Gardiner's collection of 4,500 glass plate negatives that document the burgeoning tourist trade on Mackinac Island in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. |
