Foundation Taking Spring Grant Applications

The Mackinac Island Community Foundation has a record $131,000 available for nonprofit organizations, the largest funding support the foundation has been able to offer local groups.

Said Foundation Exeutive Director Jennifer Bloswick, "2007 is shaping up to be an exciting year of grant making at the Community Foundation. We are thrilled to announce the highest amount of grant money in our history. This will allow us to help local nonprofits make their dream projects a reality."

A grant writing workshop and open house will be held at the Foundation office in the Twilight Inn Wednesday, March 21, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Grant applications also can be picked up in the Foundation office and are due by Sunday, April 15.

The Community Foundation, with assets over $5 million, provides grants from earned income on endowed funds. Many of the funds have been created by donors in support of programs in specific areas of interest, including health and human services, the environment, conservation, youth activities, historical writing and preservation, community arts, and horses.

Grants will be awarded Saturday, May 12.

Grand applications also can be found online at www. micf.org.
