Fantasy Is Being Challenged
To the Editor:

Mackinac Island is truly, still a place where one can go and step back in time. The Island needs to progress for the sake of necessity, indeed, which is appreciated by those in need.

Several years reading of Santa's arrival on a horsedrawn sleigh or dray signaled Christmas was soon on its way. Is Santa arriving on a huge modern firetruck, gliding down historic Main Street, lined with motorized snowmobiles, an appropriate portrayal for the Fantasy Isle? The fantasy is truly being challenged.

Perhaps in 2007 your cover page should picture Mike Beaudoin as Santa, with Kitty and Cub gliding down Market Street greeting the children, making memories of a truly "old-fashioned Christmas," keeping up the tradition of an Island "Somewhere in Time."
