Dr. Kevin Youngs arrived on Mackinac Island Sunday, June 17, for the two-week Medical Center's resident physician rotation program. His residency will conclude July 1.
Dr. Youngs attended medical school at Michigan State University and is in the final weeks of a family medicine residency at Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc. At the end of July, he will open his own medical practice.
"The idea of being your own boss and being able to practice medicine as you think it should be done, without someone else telling you how to do it, has always been what I've looked for," he said.
The Mackinac Island rotation, he said, is "a good transition between residency and being on your own. You get a lot of urgent care up here, which is helpful in your practice, so I'm looking to polish up my skills in that region."
Dr. Youngs is accompanied by his wife, Yasmeen, and two daughters, Maya and Lena.
"I think it's a beautiful place," he said of the Island. "It's especially nice in the evening. I've never seen it with all the tourists gone and so it's nice in the evening when it's a lot more peaceful. I can see why people like living up here."
