NEWS ABOUT PEOPLE ON MACKINAC ISLAND
BY JEANNETTE DOUD
The balmy summer days, bringing warm temperatures and lots of sunshine, have continued for the past week. Swimming, enjoying a game of golf, biking around the shore, where the wildflowers are in full bloom, or just taking a walk on the boardwalk to view the setting sun as its brilliant rays slowly descend behind the Mackinac Bridge, are just a few of the many things one can do on Mackinac. A tour on the carriages with the fringe on top is just another way to enjoy the beauty of the Island. We give all visitors a hearty welcome.
A cocktail reception was held at Grand Hotel Sunday, July 1, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to kick off a fundraising campaign for the new hospital in St. Ignace. While in St. Ignace Monday, July 2, I had the pleasure of meeting with Janis and Dr. Robert Holle. I was so pleased to see Dr. Holle looking so well. Soon we shall have the pleasure of seeing Mary and John Davey, who will be comfortably settled in their cozy cottage on the East Bluff with its magnificent view of the Island and the Straits of Mackinac. A recent note from John tells us how much they look forward to receiving the Town Crier. John and Mary will be able to spend more time at their cottage as Mary recently retired as Dean of Admissions at Cranbrook School. Although John still has an active law practice, he decided that 10 years of service as mayor and commissioner of Bloomfield Hills was enough. Welcome to Mackinac to the Davey family, who first came when John and his brothers and sisters were small children. Their cottage then was at the Mission.
