Little Stone Church Hosts Poetry Festival

John Barr (left), Candice Dunnigan, the Reverend Vincent Carroll, and James Lenfestey act out a scene from Mr. Barr's verse play at Little Stone Church, Sunday, July 8, in front of an audience of about 50. It was the first of a three-Sunday poetry festival organized by Dr. Carroll. In the satire, Mrs. Dunnigan played a CNN correspondent, while Mr. Lenfestey played the new president for life of an embattled African nation, and Rev. Carroll played the Vice President of the United States. Mr. Barr played the protagonist, a Caribbean poet who was incarcerated for a crime he did not commit, but escaped to Africa, landing in the midst of a civil war. The unpublished play was adopted from Mr. Barr's epic poem, "Grace." Mr. Lenfestey will read from his work this Sunday at 8 p.m., and Rev. Carroll will recite at the final reading Sunday, July 22.
