Grand Hotel Hosts World Famous Tennis Show The world famous Peter Burwash International (PBI) Tennis Show will make a stop at Grand Hotel Monday, July 30, through Thursday, August 2, and offer free demonstrations, clinics, and lessons. Described as "the Harlem Globetrotters of tennis," the show has been performed in 100 countries for thousands of people. It offers tennis skills education, entertainment, and inspiration in a fun and motivational program that has been presented around the world for 30 years. The show started as an instructional clinic and demonstration, and has developed into a production that combines music and slick racquet and ball control skills with humor and educational tips about the game of tennis. The PBI Tennis Show has recently performed at several professional tournaments, including the US Open, Canadian Open, German Open, Federation Cup, and made special appearances at the International Tennis Hall of Fame, Young Presidents Organization, and World Sports Fair. The free, one-hour PBI Tennis Show at the Grand Hotel tennis courts will be offered to the public Monday, July 30, and Tuesday, July 31 at 4 p.m. each day. The Pro-Am Tournament will take place Wednesday, August 1, starting at 5:30 p.m., also at the tennis courts. PBI tennis professionals will play with Mackinac Island and Grand Hotel tennis players who sign up to play. Tournament spots are still available, and people can reserve these by calling Grand Hotel Tennis Pro Jerry Murray at the hotel's tennis shop. Spectators are welcome. A free tennis clinic with instructional sessions led by PBI tennis professionals will be offered Thursday for people ages 9 and older, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A clinic for children ages 6 to 8 will be offered from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Each clinic is limited to 20 people, so anyone who wants to participate should register as soon as possible. Sign up by calling Mr. Murray at the Tennis Shop. The tennis shop can be contacted by calling 847-3331, extension 519. |
