Music Festival To Be Aug. 21-23

The fourth annual Mackinac Island Music Festival this weekend features diverse styles at both free and paid events. From Tuesday, August 21, to Thursday, August 23, locations across the Island will boom with the sound of rock and roll, country, rap, Celtic American, and classical genres.

The schedule of events follows:

Tuesday, August 21

(free events)

1:30 - 2:30 p.m. St. Ignace Steel Drum Band at Windermere Point

3 - 4:30 p.m. "An Island Serenade," featuring Glen Allen, Peggy Bynoe, and Heather May at Iroquois Hotel

7-8:30p.m. "Bijou Café," a Chamber ensemble presenting "a la Rive Gauche," featuring music played in Paris after World War One, at the Gate House restaurant.

Wednesday, August 22

(ticketed events)

4 - 5:30 p.m. "An Afternoon of Celtic Music" by Switchback, Celtic American Roots Music at Mission Church. ($10, under 12 free)

7 - 9:30 p.m."Music at the Mission," Songwriters in the Round featuring John D. Lamb, Barbara Payton, Jill Jack, and Marty McCormack of the Music Festival Hoedown to discuss songwriting before performing their music from 7 to 8:15. From 8:30 to 9:30 p.m., elmoTHUMM, an a cappella quintet, will perform. ($20, under 12 free)

Thursday, August 23

(free events)

12 - 6:30 p.m. Mackinac Music Festival Hoedown family-style outdoor concert, featuring John D. Lamb, Switchback, Jill Jack, Mary McGuire, J.C. Whitelaw, The Forbes Brothers, Barbara Payton, and Sean Forbes on the Mission Point Resort front lawn.

10 p.m. Pony Jam, where many of the Music Festival musicians jam at the Pink Pony.
