"I didn't want to believe it was in," said Orville Reid of Port Huron, still excited one day after his hole-in-one shot at Wawashkamo Golf Links Sunday, August 19. The 167- yard hole marked his first hole in one.
Golfing for 15 years, Mr. Reid was using a six iron, on the 17th hole when he made the successful swing. His three golfing friends, Gary Smith of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Fran Giacalone and Ron Morden of Port Huron, thought the ball rolled into the cup, but he was not sure.
Then, finding it in the pocket, he tried to maintain his composure so he would not distract Dave and Lin Sheppard and John Manikoff, who were putting nearby.
"I didn't want to scream too loudly," he said.
Mr. Reid said he visits the Island several times each summer and often plays golf at Wawashkamo.
