St. Ignace Salmon Derby August 25 Anglers are invited to participate in the fifth annual St. Ignace Salmon Derby, which will begin at the St. Ignace Boat Launch on Hazelton Street Saturday, August 25. There will be a cash prize awarded to the angler who catches the heaviest salmon during the day's event, which begins at 6 a.m. The awards ceremony will be at 2 p.m. The amount of the top prize will depend upon the number of participating boats, as 75% of entry fees will be earmarked for prizes. Entry fee is $50 per boat. There will be a brief meeting just before the tournament starts to review the rules of the derby, however, this year, there will be no captains' meeting, and each boat will not have to register each angler. Fishermen are expected to obey state fishing laws. The tournament will be held Sunday, August 26, if Saturday sees inclement weather. Last year, Terry Cece's team from Epoufette won the heaviest salmon contest with a 24.6- pound salmon, the largest fish ever caught in the St. Ignace Salmon Derby. |
