Former Mackinac Island Public School business teacher Sharon L. Reese, 62, passed away of multiple illnesses Friday, July 27, 2007, at her home in Rock.
Ms. Reese was born January 8, 1945, in Escanaba to Roy and Clarice (nee Norden) Ackerman.
Following her father's discharge from the military, her family relocated in Waukegan, Illinois, where she attended and was graduated from Zion-Benton High School.
Ms. Reese then moved to Springfield, Illinois, where she worked at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
She remained in Springfield until the mid 1970s, then returned to Rock and accepted a position at K. I. Sawyer Air Force Base.
In her early 30s, Ms. Reese enrolled at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, where she earned a bachelor's degree, and in 1984, began a 16-year career teaching at Mackinac Island. She retired in 2000.
She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Rock and past council president of her church.
She belonged to the Rock Senior Center and Rock Red Hat Society. She enjoyed reading, visiting with friends, spending time with family, ceramics, and gardening. She especially loved planting flowers.
Survivors include her son, Jeremy Reese of Rock, a nephew, Michael Kemp of Springfield, and many cousins and friends.
Her parents and her sister, Della Kemp, preceded her in death.
Ms. Reese's family received friends Wednesday, August 1, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church in Rock. Services were at 3 p.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church with the Reverend Devon Barrix officiating.
A luncheon followed in the church fellowship hall.
The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County assisted the family with arrangements.
