Iola Sherwood

Iola Sherwood
Iola Sherwood, 85, of Davison, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2007, at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Sherwood managed JoAnn's Fudge on Mackinac Island for 19 years during the summer and resided in Cheboygan during the winter.

She was born in Detroit October 23, 1921, to Henry and Alice (nee Shaw) Binger and married Don Milo Sherwood in Lakeville June 7, 1941. He preceded her in death March 27, 2000. Together they developed a recreational area on their family farm known as Sherwood Forest.

A resident of Davison for the past five years, she loved family gatherings, sports, reading, and camping. She was a member of the Knit and Needle Club of Davison for several years.

Mrs. Sherwood is survived by her children and their families, Don and Jo Sherwood of Davison, Diane and John Mandock of Otisville, Denise and Lawrence Hazelton of Goodrich, Dean G. Sherwood of Troy, and David and Sharon Sherwood of Greenley, Colorado; grandchildren, Danielle and Kraig Brow, Lt. Col. Dennis and Shelley Sherwood, Darci and Brad Church, Jeff and Jenny Mandock, Lydia Sherwood, and Joshua and Joseph Sherwood; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Ford, of Caro; and sister in-law, Helen Binger, of Lakeville. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers, and one sister.

A funeral was held Thursday, September 27, at 11 a.m. at Richfield Church of the Nazarene in Otisville with Pastor Gene Smith officiating. Burial was in Sashabaw Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Siena Heights University Women's Basketball to the attention of Sue Syljebeck, 1247 E. Siena Heights Drive, Adrian, MI 49221.
