Island gallery owner and expressionist nature painter Maeve Croghan has one of four shows scheduled this school year at the Park Library on the Central Michigan University campus in Mount Pleasant. A selection of her paintings is on display in the library's Barber Room until January 2.
Ms. Croghan's work is on exhibit at the library in conjunction with a display in the Library Gallery that marks the 50th anniversary of the Mackinac Bridge. The exhibit depicts the Straits area before the bridge was constructed. With depictions of nature the prevailing theme in Ms. Croghan's paintings, she said, her work was chosen as a natural complement to the bridge display.
She was invited to be one of the exhibiting artists by Megan Moreno, exhibit coordinator at the college, who discovered Ms. Croghan's work when she was visiting the Island in 2006.
The exhibit began November 8.
