Edward's Gifts Project To Be Done in May

The six-month remodeling project at Al Arbib's Edward's Gifts store on the corner of Main and Astor streets is nearing completion and is expected to be open the first week of May.

Construction on the first floor is now completed. Only hanging cabinets and reattaching store fixtures remain undone as of Wednesday, April 9. Trim and painting are the only unfinished steps for the second floor, said Matt Myers of Mackinac Woodworks.

Estimated to be built in the mid-1800s, the building contributes to Mackinac Island's National Historic Landmark designation.

Mr. Arbib has owned the retail shop since 1998, and the building and business have been in the Arbib family since 1934.
