Dorothy Larsen

Dorothy M. (nee Wellington) Larsen of Saginaw, formerly of Mackinac Island, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2008, at Alterra Sterling House in Saginaw. She was 77.

She was born August 1, 1930, on Mackinac Island.

She came to Saginaw in 1947 to attend nursing school at Saginaw General Hospital. She worked as a registered nurse in the pediatric unit at St. Luke's Hospital in Saginaw, and retired in 1985. She then worked for the Child Receiving Home of Saginaw.

She was an active member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church, and her community. She volunteered for many years at the parish food pantry, and was a member of the Active Seniors Club at St. Andrew's Church. She devoted most of her life, however, to her family.

Mrs. Larsen is survived by her two sons and their families, Martin and Tammy Larsen and Arne and LeeAnn Larsen; and her daughter and her family, Beth Ann and Allan Kawiecki; her grandchildren, Matthew and Sarah Kawiecki, Nicholas, Jennifer, and Ashley Larsen, Chelsee and Carlee Larsen, and William Larsen; her two sisters, Mary Alice Wellington and Helen Ann Newton, and two brothers, John and George Wellington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Helen Wellington, a brother, James Wellington, a sister, Jean Peters, and her son, William Larsen.

A funeral liturgy was Tuesday, May 27, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Saginaw. Father Joseph Schabel will officiate. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery in Saginaw. Avigil service Monday, May 26, was led by Sister Elaine Raymond of the Mission Sisters of the Holy Spirit.

Memorials can be made to St. Andrew's Catholic Church or to the St. Andrew's Parish Food Pantry in Saginaw.
