Gallagher Open To Be August 30

The sixth annual Mark Gallagher Golf Open will be at Wawashkamo Golf Club Saturday, August 30, at 3 p.m.

Registration is $60 per person. To register, call the tournament's sponsor, Mackinac Doll Company, at 847-3527.

Prizes will be given to the top golfers.

The tournament honors Mark Gallagher, who died of abdominal cancer January 5, 2001. The 21-year-old grew up on the Island and was pursuing a career in law enforcement. He was graduated from Mackinac Island Public School in 1998 and is the son of Brenda (nee Gallagher) and Jim Pettit of Mackinac Island.

Money raised at the event benefits the Mark Gallagher Scholarship Fund endowed by the Mackinac Island Community Foundation. The scholarship is for Mackinac Island students pursuing a career in law enforcement or another type of service to the Mackinac Island community.
