Reports from the Mackinac Island Police Department from July 8 to July 15:

Police contacted the Coast Guard to assist in a diesel fuel spill 15 feet off the Lake Huron shoreline between Leslie Court and the Mackinac Island Marina at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 9. Clean-up was turned over to the Coast Guard.

A Cheboygan man was arrested and charged with boating under the influence of alcohol at 11:52 p.m. Sunday, July 13. He failed three sobriety tests after the Coast Guard stopped his boat for a routine safety inspection and noticed that he appeared to be intoxicated. The man was released on a $500 bond and will go to court in St. Ignace July 22.

A sterling silver necklace worth $70 and three pairs of earrings and three necklaces worth $150 were reported stolen at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, at a hotel.

Housekeeping employees at a hotel were questioned by police Tuesday, July 8, at the request of the hotel's security officer, following several reported thefts from guest rooms. Those questioned said they knew nothing about the thefts and would report any suspicious activity.

Police reported 26 bicycle larcenies, responded to one false fire alarm, and assisted local emergency response teams five times.
