Repairs on the fascia and outdoor trim at Mackinac Island Public School began Monday, July 21.

The repairs, which were contracted to Mike Gamble, are budgeted to not exceed $60,000.

In addition to replacing the old fascia with a newer, more maintenance free material, workers are making minor repairs to the building and replacing some insulation.

"With a building from 1960, they're bound to find a few things," said superintendent Roger Schrock, who also said the repairs are progressing nicely. "You can really see the difference in type and quality of insulation."

New exterior lighting will also be installed. In addition to the outdoor repair work, the floor of the school's large gymnasium will be refinished starting Monday, August 18.
