38th Annual Mackinac Island Horse Show Will Be Sunday

The 38th Annual Mackinac Island Horse Show will take place Sunday, August 17, at 9 a.m. at the Mary Milton Memorial Horse Ring at Great Turtle Park. Entry fees start at $3 per class and organizers encourage advance registration.

The show will offer a variety of classes, including Western events, equitation events, showmanship, a trail class, and a costume class. This year's schedule includes one new event for adults, the Green Rider/Green Horse class. In this class, beginning adult riders, or experienced riders on inexperienced horses, will compete in a relaxed atmosphere designed to give the entrants more confidence on horseback.

"Everyone should be able to find a class that is fun for them," said Maryanke Alexander, Mackinac Horsemen's Association president.

At 4 p.m., after the show's last class, the Horsemen's Association will raffle off an original painting by Island artist Maeve Croghan. Tickets for the raffle cost $10 each, or three for $25, and are available through members of the Horsemen's Association. All proceeds will benefit the Horsemen's Association and the Mackinac Island 4-H Club.

In case of rain, the show will take place the following Sunday, August 24.
