Music Festival Schedule of Events

All events are free unless otherwise noted. The schedule is as follows:

Tuesday, August 19

• 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. Petoskey Steel Drum Band at Mary's Bistro Waterside

The Caribbean-style group returns to the Music Festival

• 3 - 4 p.m. "Rock Star Mommy, My Life as a Rocker Mom"

Book signing with author and rocker Judy Davis at the Island Bookstore

• 5 - 6 p.m. Five O'Clock Somewhere...

Venues around town including the Bistro on the Greens, the Carriage House, Horn's Gaslight Bar, Mary's Bistro, the Pink Pony, Round Island Bar and Grill at Mission Point, the Mustang Lounge, Millie's on Main, the Village Inn, and the Yankee Rebel Tavern host local singer/songwriters along with some of the Festival's performers.

• 7:30 p.m. Music at the Mission

Texas singer/songwriter Colin Gilmore and Colorado bluegrass band Elephant Revival perform in the Mission Point Theater. Tickets are $10 each, or four for $25.

• 9:30 p.m. Jazz Night with Alex Graham Quartet at the Gate House restaurant

Wednesday, August 20

• 1 - 2 p.m. Chordiology Barbershop Quartet at Windermere Point

• 2:30 - 3:30 Poema Musica de la Baroque at Mackinac Island Public Library

Mackinac Island summer resident and classical guitarist Roger Humphrey is joined by flutist Lisa Wassom for an afternoon of selections from Baroque composers.

• 4 - 5:30 Freshwater - An Afternoon of Celtic Music at Mission Church

Tickets are $3 at the door, with children younger than 12 free.

• 3 - 5 p.m. The Art of Rock at Horn's Gaslight Bar

An event to showcase the work of reknowned rock artist Mark Arminski, who has designed the posters for the past three Music Festivals.

• 5 - 6 p.m. Five O'Clock Somewhere...

• 7:30 p.m. Music at the Mission

Celtic-infused folk band Switchback returns to the Mackinac Island Music Festival to open for the legendary rock band Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels in the festival's headlining event.

Tickets are $32 in advance and $35 at the door. Admission for children younger than 12 is free.

Thursday, August 21

• 1 - 5:30 p.m. Mackinac Music Festival Hoedown on the Grand Wagon Stage at the bottom of the Grand Hill, west of the tennis courts

• John D Lamb, the Forbes Brothers, Colin Gilmore, Kraig Kenning, Shout Sister Shout, The Mickeys, and Rick Niemi and Shotgun Willie perform in a family-style, outdoor concert.

• 1 - 5 p.m. Marshall Music Instrument Zoo on the Grand Wagon Stage

Lansing's Marshall Music Company samples the sounds of a variety of musical instruments.

• 9 - 10 p.m. An Evening of Swing at Grand Hotel in the Terrace Room

Dance to the live music of Alex Graham and the Grand Hotel Orchestra.

• 10 p.m. - Gate House Jam

The musicians of the 2008 Mackinac Island Music Festival gather at the Gate House for a final jam session.
