Mackinac Island Foundation Plans Community Celebration August 27

The Mackinac Island Community Foundation will host its annual community celebration at the Gate House restaurant from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 27. The public is invited to meet the Foundation's new executive director, Robin Dorman, and to hear an update on foundation grants and projects.

The foundation, established in 1994, has more than 45 endowed funds to improve the quality of life for Mackinac Island's residents, visitors, and environment. The Foundation has more than $5 million in assets, mostly in endowed funds, which provide income for projects, grants, and scholarships.

Last year, more than 75 grants worth $246,000 were awarded to other nonprofit organizations serving Mackinac Island.

The foundation's board of trustees includes Chairman Wesley Maurer Jr., Vice Chairman Dan Musser III, President Brad Chambers, Secretary Margaret Doud, Treasurer Mike Young, and trustees Penny Barr, Jack Dehring, Chuck Kleber, Kim Kolatski, Kathy Lewand, Randy Stuck, Mary K. McIntire, Walter North, Carol Rearick, and Lorna Straus.
