2 Students Complete Hunter Safety

Both sixth grade students at Mackinac Island Public School, Miss Kolatski and Mr. Shunk scored 98 and 96 on the test, respectively, said Jack Armstrong, hunter safety instructor.

He was assisted by Miss Kolatski's father, Tim Kolatski of Mackinac Island.

The two students had four days of classes, finishing with field target shooting with a shotgun, pistol, and a rifle.

The course taught the students hunting techniques, firearm handling, and hunter ethics.

Taking hunter safety is required for people born after January 1, 1960, and is required to purchase a hunting license.

This is Mr. Armstrong's first year as the Island's hunter safety instructor. He replaced Dennis Bradley, who stepped down after teaching the course for many years.
