County Treasurer Hampton Retires

Mackinac County Treasurer Jane Hampton will retire May 1, six months shy of the end of her term. She made the announcement in a letter to County Clerk Mary Kay Tamlyn, who announced it at the board of commissioners meeting Thursday, January 24.

Mrs. Hampton has held the post since January 1, 1987.

The election commission will appoint an interim treasurer to serve until the November 4 election, when the seat will be on the ballot. Sitting on the election commission are Mrs. Tamlyn and Probate Judge Clayton Graham. Either Sheriff Scott Strait or Register of Deeds Diane Frankovich also will take a seat on the commission when it appoints the interim treasurer.
