Allen Earns Teacher Certification

Susan Allen has earned certification awarded by the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. She was among 8,491 teachers to be certified in 2007, and joins 63,820 other teachers, nationally, who have earned the distinction. The East Bluff summer cottager has taught English for speakers of other languages for 10 years at Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia.

"National Board certification is the most prestigious credential a teacher can earn," said the board president and CEO, Joseph Aguerrebere. The voluntary assessment program involves analysis of teaching skills, peer assessment, and demonstration of a teacher's knowledge of the subject taught.

Ms. Allen lives in Alexandria, Virginia, with her husband, Don Hinman. She and her sister, Holly Mull of Atlanta, Georgia, own the East Bluff cottage formerly owned by their father, Judge Glenn Allen.
