Mary 'Jeanne' Grant

Mary "Jeanne" Grant of Hillside, New York, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2008, at her home with her family.

She was born in Cross Village December 10, 1924, to Dorman and Melvina (nee Marshall) Wilson.

She served her country during World War II as a Women's Army Corps corporal. It was there that she met her husband, William Grant.

Mrs. Grant was proud of her Chippewa heritage. She had a passion for sewing that led her into teaching a sewing class at the Hillside Senior Citizens Center in Hillside for many years.

She is survived by her children and their families, James, Katherine, Angelo, Robert, William, and Patricia; 14 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Grant was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and an uncle and aunt, Ty and Ling Horn of Mackinac Island.

A funeral was held Thursday, January 24, at 8:30 a.m.

Mass was held at 9:30 a.m. at Christ the King Church in Hillside.

Burial was at the Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, New York.
