How Can State Government Dictate Island Harbor's Appearance? On entering Mackinac Island Harbor for the first time this year, what stood out was a blazing blue modern metal roof at the yacht docks. Apparently a new storage building. What on earth is a modern metal roof structure doing in our picturesque historical harbor? As I walked past the gynormous harbor fence, I understood what Becky Barnwell was describing in her letter to the editor. That fence belongs next to some medieval castle! It has no place on Mackinac Island!
When all of the island business people have to go through an architectural review, how does the state government get to dictate how this island is to look? |
