Private Horse Culture Should Be Able to Prosper on Island
To the Editor:

After years of hard work to restore the private saddle horse population on Mackinac Island, why would the City of Mackinac Island look to restrict the private saddle horse right of way under its jurisdiction? For as long as many people can remember, commercial tour carriages have been the number-one source of congestion on downtown city streets. I find it ironic that those tour carriage owners come to the City asking for relief from sharing the streets with private saddle horses. Please do not put up roadblocks to the growth of the private saddle horse population. Property rights should not be secondary to commercial interests. It is important that we allow the private and commercial horse culture on Mackinac Island to flourish and prosper.
