Shanty Is Rare Sight Near Shore

Michael Gamble, 17, a senior at Mackinac Island Public School, stands next to an ice fishing shanty he made during wood shop class this year. The shanty is equipped with a bench, an opening for three fishing holes, and space for a portable heater. Mr. Gamble fishes every other day and gets bites, but hasn't caught a fish yet. The shanty is about 100 yards off the west shore of the Island, near the school. It is the only shanty seen near the Island.
