Painting Workshop Set for June

A painting workshop focusing on draft horses will be held at the Mackinac Island Community Hall from June 15 to June 19. It is for intermediate to advanced painters and will cost $450.

Participants will meet at Community Hall and then visit areas on the Island, painting images of horses and barns. Mackinac Island Carriage Tours is supporting the event by modeling its horses and transporting artists, said Becki Barnwell, director of the Mackinac Arts Council, which is sponsoring the workshop.

Michael Nevins, a painting instructor with The American Academy of Equine Art, will lead a class each day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The workshop will also include a slide presentation of Mr. Nevins' work that will be open to the public in the evenings as well as during the day.

Registration is available at The American Academy of Equine Art Web site, www.aaea.net.
