Incumbents Retain Seats in May 5 Election

Mackinac Island voters sought no change in city leadership during the Tuesday, May 5 election. There were no surprises on Mackinac Island following the Tuesday, May 5, election, with both city and school board incumbents retaining their seats. Voter turnout was at 42.6%, more than double the Mackinac County average of 15.8%. Of the Island's 674 registered voters, 287 cast ballots.

The closest race came down to two alderman seats on the city council, with voters having a choice among three candidates. Incumbent Mike Hart received 170 votes and incumbent Frank Bloswick, Jr. received 157 votes to be reelected, while Sam Barnwell received 146 votes.

City officials running unopposed included Mayor Margaret Doud with 210 votes, Clerk Karen Lennard with 230, Treasurer Rick Linn with 248, Supervisor Ron Dufina with 162, and Assessor Robert Benser with 187.

Mackinac Island Public School's fiveyear operating millage of 7.4 mills passed, 180 to 85 votes. Incumbent school board members retained their seats, Leanne Brodeur with 185 votes and Jason St. Onge with 162. They were challenged by Erin Bagbey-Beck, who received 103 votes.
