Engine Failure Results in Star Line Picking Up Passengers at Arnold Dock

Owing to engine failure to its only operating catamaran at the time, Arnold Transit Company was assisted by Star Line with transporting people and luggage to Mackinac Island from Mackinaw City Thursday, April 30, and part of Friday morning, May 1.

It was a rare sight for people to see Star Line's Marquette II docked at Arnold Transit's main dock in Mackinaw City.

Motor vessel Huron, a traditional ferry with a top speed of 16 miles per hour, filled in the catamaran's spot in St. Ignace for both days, said Arnold Transit General Manager Bob Brown.

Arnold Transit's Mackinaw City operation was opened officially Friday, however, the company had scheduled departures a day early exclusively for a conference at Grand Hotel. The other catamarans were in the water and ready for service by early Friday afternoon.
